Complementary Services - Youth Counselling

Sometimes you badly want to talk to somebody about something that is happening, or has happened, in your life but don’t want to involve friends and family – in some cases they may be the cause of your anxieties. Winchester Youth Counselling, a registered charity, has recently received funding to set up a pilot project offering free, confidential counselling to young people aged 11-25 at Swanmore Community Lounge. The counsellor, Sue North, who also works in Winchester, is a fully trained counsellor with specific training in working with young people.

The counselling is offered weekly, for 50 minutes per session. If you feel you would like to know more, or to book at appointment, please contact Winchester Youth Counselling on 01962 820444, alternatively you can contact us by our email, 14-25counselling@btconnect.com or find out more on the website: www.winchesteryouthcounselling.org. You will be offered an initial appointment with Sue to think about what is happening, if counselling is right for you at this moment in time and if you both feel it is, you will be offered a regular weekly time – on a Tuesday afternoon – for counselling. This is likely to be for 6 weeks at first. It may be that 6 weeks will be enough but if both you and the counsellor feel that more is necessary, then you can discuss this together and agree to continue further.

People ask for counselling for a whole variety of reasons; it may be that they are finding school difficult; there may be problems at home or with friends; perhaps they are being bullied, or just feeling low, not feeling too good about themselves. There may be a problem with alcohol and drug use, either yours or someone close to you, which is of concern. It really doesn’t matter what the problem is, if something if worrying you then an opportunity to talk to someone else can be very helpful.

It may be that you are unable to make any of the times, or the day, available, but if you are able to get to Winchester, you can also be offered counselling at our office at Swan Lane, Winchester, just close to the railway station.
